Urevbu Contemporary proudly presents "Elikia: Echoes of Ebony Hope," a captivating solo exhibition showcasing thirteen medium to large-scale paintings by acclaimed Congolese artist, Doudou Mbemba. Inspired by the Lingala word for hope, 'Elikia,' this exhibition explores the fusion of optimism, promise, and the rich tapestry of the Congolese culture.
Mbemba's vibrant artworks come to life through a dynamic interplay of human forms, lively colors, and textured compositions. Employing a mix of oil and acrylic, the artist seamlessly integrates collaged paper and cardboard, resulting in captivating visual narratives. Each brushstroke reveals Mbemba's profound exploration of themes such as identity, community, immigration, migration, technology, and mechanization.
The frenetic energy of Mbemba's hometown, Kinshasa, pulsates through his work.
